Ethiopian Airlines Reaches 95 Female Pilots Ahead of International Women’s Day

Ethiopian Airlines to Operate Eight Women-Led Flights for International Women’s Day

Ethiopian Airlines will operate eight special flights staffed entirely by women to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, the airline announced.

The flights will depart simultaneously to several international and domestic destinations, including Cairo, Djibouti, Nairobi, Frankfurt, Accra, Mumbai, Windhoek, and Dire Dawa. Each flight will be operated exclusively by female professionals, including pilots, engineers, technicians, cabin crew, dispatchers, and ground staff.

Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said the initiative is designed to encourage greater participation of women in the aviation sector and highlight the growing role of women across technical and operational positions within the airline.

According to the CEO, women currently make up about 40 percent of Ethiopian Airlines’ workforce, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for women in areas that were traditionally dominated by men, particularly technical and aviation roles.

The airline also announced that the number of its female pilots has reached 95, marking another milestone in Ethiopian Airlines’ push for gender inclusion in aviation.

The women-operated flights have become an annual tradition for the airline, aimed at celebrating women’s achievements while inspiring more women and girls to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace.
