Duke University is a private research institution located in the USA. Established in 1838 by Methodists and Quakers in what is now Trinity, the school relocated to Durham in 1892. The Duke Endowment was created in 1924 by tobacco and electric power tycoon James Buchanan Duke, who also renamed the organization in his father’s honor, Washington Duke, who passed away. In 2010, the Karsh overseas Scholarship was established in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by overseas academics to Duke University, due to a kind donation from Bruce A. and Martha L. Karsh.
